Pride Landmark Flagpole Update

We were asked for an update on the Arenas district flag, so I'm sharing the following.
Last year, with community support, the City of Palm Springs approved a 30-year license agreement with Palm Springs Pride for the construction and installation of the Arenas District Landmark Flagpole. General maintenance of the flagpole itself, management of the raising and lowering of the flags, and insurance are the responsibility of Palm Springs Pride. The Pride organization paid the city $75,000 to enter this agreement and $1 annually.
Two donors contributed $50,000. 163 other donors raised $21,363, and Palm Springs Pride made up the difference, purchased the first flags, and paid for annual insurance. Insurance, maintenance, and flag management are the responsibility of the Pride organization.

To our surprise, the flag the community helped us raise on October 24, 2025, is ready to be retired. Surprised, because the flag maker who supplies many of the large, high-quality flags you see in the Coachella Valley estimated that our flags would last three months due to the frequent, high winds and intense sun we experience. This is the same flag maker who makes the Hilcrest Pride Flag.
At $1,800 a flag, everyone has been thrilled to see that the original flag lasted seven months!
Last weekend, Pride reached out to supporters to help raise funds for replacement flags, annual maintenance, and insurance.
We have faith the community will donate funds to keep this permanent landmark art installation flying high in downtown Palm Springs for many years to come. The Pride organization expects to order several replacement flags before the 4th of July.
